Meet Our Healing Herd

The haven currently cares for 22 rescued horses and ponies—some permanently, others through foster arrangements. These animals come from backgrounds of severe neglect and abuse, and some are even physically damaged to the point where they can’t be ridden, yet they remain invaluable companions in therapeutic work.

Within the herd, each horse exhibits a distinct personality. They rebuild trust gradually, often forming deep emotional bonds with human participants, which is especially profound when those humans themselves carry trauma. As the horses recover physically and emotionally, they also play a pivotal role in rehabilitating vulnerable individuals. Their presence facilitates healing through nonverbal communication, empathy, and the slow restoration of connection.

The horses often serve as emotional anchors. For instance, beneficiaries with emotional or physical wounds have been paired with horses who themselves are healing, creating a symbiotic bond that fosters growth and mutual understanding. Get to know each invaluable member of our herd by clicking on their images below.

Help our horses while they continue to help others

Imagine a peaceful field where gentle horses stand as silent guardians, offering solace and hope to those escaping life’s chaos. You can be the heartbeat behind their care.

With R 200, you can provide a nourishing bale of feed. A gift of R 400 sponsors essential hoof trimming. With R 600, you ensure vital medication and supplements for our senior herd members. And for R 1 000, you bring a bright, healthy smile through a dentist visit. Because every need matters, your support contributes to their health & comfort.

Caring for one horse or pony costs around R 5 000 per month, even with feed sponsorships. We know a full monthly commitment may not suit everyone—that’s why we’ve made giving simple, quick, and meaningful. Simply select the value of the support you would like to extend, and you’ll help contribute not only to a loved member of the herd but also to hundreds of vulnerable people they heal each week.

Together, you and our herd create ripples of healing—one loving, healing hoofbeat at a time. Make your contribution below.

One bale of hay can feed a horse for two days. Though hay can be costly, it’s absolutely essential to keeping our horses nourished and content. Your generous contribution will feed one of our herd for two days—bringing both nourishment and happiness to a deserving horse.

Horses need their hooves trimmed regularly to maintain their well‑being—typically every six to eight weeks for trimming or shoeing, and even more often in warmer months when hooves grow faster. Your donation ensures hoof health & soundness.

Our horses rely on a variety of supplements to stay healthy and strong. Especially our older herd members—they need both medication and supplements to remain comfortable and manage old injuries. We provide many essentials, including but not limited to Pergolide, Previcox, probiotics, Optihoof, etc. You can help by sponsoring a horse’s supplements—to ensure they stay comfortable, strong, and well cared for.

Horses require a dental check‑up at least once a year from a qualified equine dentist or veterinarian to keep their smiles, and health, in top shape. Regular examinations help detect and correct issues. Your generous donation ensures our horses can continue receiving this vital annual dental care, helping maintain their bright, healthy grins and overall well‑being.
